I enjoyed Martin Clunes on dogs, until he asked the pet shop owner what was the most ridiculous thing she was asked for and she replied 'vegetarian dog food - dogs are carnivores'. WRONG! Dogs are, like humans, omnivores and can quite happily exist on a vegetarian diet, as demonstarted by my 7 year old rescue dog, Jack. The vet compliments me on his condition when he goes for his annual check up. When he was rescued at 3 years of age, he had barely any hair and was painfully thin, because he suffers from colitis. I was told to feed him on a very expensive well known brand of dog food, but being vegetarian thought I would try a vegetarian food for dogs with delicate digestions which was much cheaper and he has never looked back. A friend with a rescue collie was advised to cut down on his protein intake so thought she would try my food, but was surprised to find that it actually had a higher protein content than the food she was using. There are at least two companies supplying vegetarian dog food on the internet.
