    Re: viewing

All users outside the UK will be blocked from accessing itv.com content by our geo-blocking software. This is necessary for us to comply with the terms of our broadcast and content licences.

Some UK customers may be affected if their Internet Service Provider (ISP) use services located abroad. IP addresses that have not been registered correctly on IP databases as being UK based will result in content being blocked also. If your ISP has recently registered new IP addresses with these databases, then you will no longer be Geo-blocked once our servers have been re-freshed. This occurs on a weekly basis.

In addition, programmes such as web accelerators can divert your internet connection outside of the UK .

Contact your ISP if you continue to be geo-blocked from within the UK, to investigate further.

If you have not specifically requested a static IP from your ISP, then every time you open your browser you may be allocated a different IP address, so it may be worth closing your browser and re-opening an internet page to see if you are able to view our content.

Please note that every time you open a new internet page you are given a new IP address. Our Geo-Blocking software reads your computers IP address for the location. If your ISP provides you with IP addresses which use servers based abroad, then you will be blocked from accessing our content on itv.com

You can check this for yourself. Next time you log on and get the geo blocking message go to the following website to see what your IP address is:

Note down your IP address and type it into the following website on the right hand side under RIPE DATABASE SEARCH:

Press GO and it will tell you the location of your server. If its outside the UK then you will be blocked. If it's inside the UK then your ISP has not registered their IP addresses with the correct databases.

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about this as we have to comply with our content license agreements and block IP addresses based abroad.

You will need to request that your ISP provide you with IP addresses that are UK based.

    Re: viewing

I'm having the same problem but mine is particularly baffling seeing as I'm only being blocked from one program, and other users on campus are not having this problem at all - we all have identical IP addresses - when entered into the RIPE website it tells me GB. However, surely the ISP cannot have registered the IP address with the wrong database seeing as my friend in the room next door is not experiencing problems and we have the same IP when we both do the 'whats my IP' and 'Ripe' thing.

This makes me think it is my PC which is a problem, however, on the advice of all sorts of computer-y people and ITV as well, I have deleted all temp internet files/cookies etc., ensured my language and region is all UK, my computer clock is on GMT, and I've checked with my computer office that my internet connection in my room is not being limited to a 'visitors' connection as opposed to 'student' connection (which has full access rights to the university network). As far as anyone can see there is absolutely nothing actually blocking me. Have I missed something?

Can ITV block specific computers? I don't have a clue whats going on!

Oh, and just for the record, I'm sat in a student room in Oxford, UK, I'm not in Peru or anything!

    Re: viewing

No I'm not - I'm just using standard interet explorer.

Also, didn't mention earlier, but have got no web accelerator and my computer was bought in the UK 2 yrs ago, never had this problem before and it has never left the country.
