Restless Leg Syndrome - Dr please reply

    aaaarrrrrrh....

I have tried loads of treatments, but the side affects are way too much, so need a new way to deal with this,#

it is so irritating especially in the middle of the night, I have to get up walk about, stretch legs etc, then try and get back to sleep, then low and behold a short time later I have to get up again...

I am sure there are Aliens in my legs..... get them out..

    Hi,

I don't know if you're still reading the forum, but I'll reply anyway as it may help someone else with this problem.

One simple solution which may help is a certain drink company's Bitter Lemon or ordinary Tonic. (Schweppes).

The reason their versions of tonic and bitter lemon helps, is that it contains something called 'quinine' pronounced 'qwi' 'neen'.

Other 'own brands' from supermarkets don't work I'm afraid, so you may have to spend a bit more on them.

Failing that, try going to see your local Bowen Technique therapist - I've treated several people with restless legs, and it's helped them a great deal.

    Hope this helps.

    CC

    Hi

I suffer from restless leg syndrome periodically as does my mother and my late grandmother (maternal).

when mine start up i put on a pair of class 1 compression hosiery and the jumping stops.

I dont know why it works but it does. If you see your practice nurse or district nurse they can measure you for stockings and prescribe them for you.

I dont think i have this however since i was a child i have had what the doctor called "growing pains" in my legs, it used to be down my shins. As i have got older (i am now 28) the pain is alot worse i get terrible pain in both my legs and my knees i have been to the hospital who have done x-rays and i have had blood test which have all came back ok , the only way i can explain the pain is like a throbbing tooth ache and when i walk up a hill or up the stairs my legs tingle and go cold and feel like i have an elastic band around them and they really hurt, some night i am nearly crying as they ache so much the only way to ease the pain is to lie on my settee with my legs high on the back up against the wall i have also been for physio and they could not find anything wrong ..... IS THERE ANYONE WHO CAN  PLEASE HELP IT IS GETTING WORSE AND NOBODY CAN FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG MANY THANKS.

    Hi there,

I have had exactly the sale as you for years - like agonising tooth ache in my legs, sometimes lower back and knees and often on just one leg (but it alternates) My 6 year old daughter complains of the same troubles. Recently Ive also had restless leg too and last night was terrible, i didnt sleep until 3am.

Doc is telling me that my Daughter has growing pains and that mine is the beginnings of osteoarthritis (Im only 33 and have had this all my life on and off).

If you find anything out Id really be interested to hear.

Hi, If anyone with restless leg syndrom comes back to this page, I can recommend vitamin E capsules. I suffered for years from childhood, drove me mad couldn't sleep for it, it even got to my arms.  I read an article by Jan de Fries, he recommended vit E, didn't expect it to work as have tried so many things over the years. Oh what a difference it has made,  I started taking it regularly, but now just top up every so often if the legs start up again, as they did last night!! I took 2 capsules and was back to sleep within the hour, will continue to take for afew more days to top my system up.  I hope this can work for you also, because it has changed my life!!!!

Hi Velvet, an American friend of mine swears by putting Ivory soap in her bed at night to alleviate her restless legs! Sounds too far fetched to work, but I believe it does! I'm not sure where one would buy that in the UK, but maybe over the net, if you want to try it? Do you eat a banana a day? Apparently this helps.

Re: Restless Leg Syndrome - Dr please reply

    hello,

just been reading the forum on this subject, and have come to the conclusion that this is what i must have! no matter how much i try to stretch out my legs it doesn't go away! i have tryed to excercise more, go for walks, runs, bike rides etc, but to no avail! however, when my leg starts to play up, (it is always in my left lower leg) i either pop it out of the bed covers, the cool air seems to ease it. if that doesn't work, i rub lavender oil into my calf muscle, which works wonders!

i hope this helps others too and i will be trying all the other suggestions! good luck to all, remember, it could be worse, we could not have any legs! Wink

Re: Restless Leg Syndrome - Dr please reply

    Hello everyone,

Read all your comments sorry to say there is no cure for Restless legs. But I know something that can help with it but I can't remember the products name will find out and post it and it is herbal.

Don't want to be cheeky to the person who posted the comment on the Vitamin E which may work but the way you are taking it is wrong you can't just take something when you want. To get the best results out of anything herbal or natural you need to take for 4-6 weeks at a higher dose and then low the dosage down to what the container says.

Always read the labels and ask the staff were you buying the products about medications you are on as not all herbal or natural products are safe to take alongside medication.

I know all this as I used to work for company which gives adivce on herbal products.

Sorry to the person who posted the Vitamin E comment.

    Luv Claire

I suffered with cramp and restleg leg syndrome and was prescribed quinine for the cramp, which has also helped reduce the restless leg syndrome.

It may not work for everyone, but worth trying

I know everyone is different, but for me the answer was cutting out caffeine.

It just might help.  Hope so - I know how difficult this can be.

My partner suffers from this along with spasm attacks.  He was prescribed baclofen which does help.  I have taken it myself as I have arthritis in the hip and knee so get muscle spasticity and 5mg of this helps tremendously.  The pills I have are in 10mg but I only take half of that.

You may want to look this and try it.

     Hope this helps.
