Broken Heart [U] RIP Nick Cutter - gone, but not forgotten

Its just too soon to lose Nick - and a very unsatisfactory way of doing it, somehow.

Maybe this is leaving a way back in for another series...... so many things left unresolved, after all.......

I actually thought this was a well-written episode and very well acted.  I especially liked Jenny asking Nick not to go back into the arc - echoes of Claudia asking him not to go through the anomaly.  Gotta admit, I was waiting for Jenny to grab him and kiss him...!! I sat there watching the final scenes with tears streaming down my face...

    Crying

I agree that it is way too soon to lose Nick though - I'd hoped he be in all the episodes and then bow out in the season finale - guess it wasn't to be.  Dougie must have been keen to leave !!  It's a real shame though.  For me, Nick Cutter was the driving force of "Primeval" - the heart and soul of the show if you like.

That said, the episode did leave many questions unanswered.   Fingers crossed that the writers have answered some of those questions in upcoming episodes.

Claudia, Capt Ryan. Stephen and now Nick. Crying  How much can we fans take!!  What is the joke here?  Are the writers building us up for something bigger?   I am very confused over the whole thing.  If this is a set up for something to come then they are either very smart writers in that we will all have a "ah I see why now" moment or they are very naive thinking we will stay interested if they wait too long to reveal it to us.  Why have all those little teasers in S1 & S2 if they are not going to act on them.

    UGH!!  Tongue Tied

Still feel it was a very unsatisfactory ending - he and Jenny could have at least had a chance to declare their feelings before he died, and whats with Helen's sudden interest in the future of humanity? She didn't care much when Nick found her through the anomaly in S1.......

Re: RIP Nick Cutter - gone, but not forgotten

Did anyone else really miss him in ep. 4? Sad

Enjoyed the action, but it seemed to wierd with only half the original team there...... I don't mind the Danny character, but he's no Nick Cutter either in brains or looks......

Re: RIP Nick Cutter - gone, but not forgotten

I missed him in every episode I saw so far in spanish, especially that they removed him from the credits at the beginning made my heart cry. I know it makes no sense to let him listed if he's left, but he somehow was the soul of the show...

Re: RIP Nick Cutter - gone, but not forgotten

The logical thought-line to do with Nick Cutter's return is to do with time travel.

We know Helen Cutter goes forwards and backwards in time, so there must be a way of the Team eventually sussing out how do do the same...... perhaps the artifact that Cutter handed to Connor as he was dying is a key or even the key?

Re: RIP Nick Cutter - gone, but not forgotten

There's a rumour that Nick wil be back, at least briefly, at some point - thinking with my head and not my heart (which is still broken!) there are three big points in favour of this argument that I can see.

Firstly, that Dougie was very much around for most of the first three episodes, and could easily have filmed extra scenes for a later episode, which ITV are keeping very firmly secret so as to not spoil the surprise. Obviously, also still around is Lucy Brown - and looking like both Jenny and Claudia, so could have also filmed extra scenes as one or the other (or both!).

Secondly, the writers have known since the end of S2 that he was planning on leaving early in S3. I really can't believe that a suitable ending to the Nick/Claudia/Jenny storyline has not been written in at some point this series, even if only a brief conclusion. Also, I seem to remember an interview where it was confirmed that Claudia Brown would make a reappearance at some point......

Thirdly, the easiest way to persuade fans to adapt to the new characters is surely some closure of storylines with original characters! If we see Nick and Claudia reunited, or Helen finally meeting a suitable ending, how much easier to move on to a reinvented version of Primeval?

If these things don't come to pass, there will be an awful lot of disappointed fans, who will be less inclined to stick with Primeval and see how things develop, that's just human nature - we all like some kind of a proper conclusion, preferably a happy one, but some kind of closure for better or worse. Even Nick finding Claudia again in a parallel universe and getting killed alongside her would be better than that empty death at the hand of Helen the mad woman, surely!

If this is all wishful thinking, then I for one will be an extremely disappointed fan, as things could have been concluded so much better........
