    Susan Boyle

The host who gave the phone number to call to vote for Susan Boyle said "if you think Susan Boyle should win....call 090 "triple 1" 3222 etc (0901113222 etc).  The number to call was 090 11 3222 etc.  I often depend on audio as I'm dyslexic.  Could this slip up have affected the vote?

I am also dyslexic.  I doubt that that could have sliped up the voting.  The thing is Susan Boyle had a lot of publicity and as I have said through out the competition a large amount of her hits on her video on youtube were probably faulse hits caused by individuals or a botnet paying her video a large amount of times to bump up the hits.  It was also promoted on the news which would have helped get the video more hits and then because the video has more hits more people watch it.  Another thing to remember is hit counters display the amount of times the video has been viewed not the amount of individual views.

It is not suprising she is in a rehab place as her ego would have been greatly enlarged being told her video has 10s of millions of views only to realise she was not as popular as he was told.  I guess it would be like winning employee of the month in a large corporation employing thousands of people only to be later told that there was a miss count

Some simple hit counters can be affected by revisiting a webpage - but many websites have ways of telling if you have been there before and have hit counters that do not count repeat visits

Botnets as you call them do not play videos - they are mostly used to harvest information commonly for the purpose of posting spam or sending E-mails

You really should check your facts before posting

You should actully check your facts as although some hit counters can be made to count non repeats some ISPs such as some cable providers have the same IP address for all their customers so they would only count 1 hit from any one with internet from that provider.  Also not many people want to use hit counters which only count 1 hit per visitor as websites which make no money or make a loss want to have a large amount of hits and members because it makes it more appealing to other companies who may want to buy the website.

Also as well as harvesting information and sending emails botnets can make other computers do other things with out the computer owner knowing such as visiting websites.  Usually botnet owners can threaten a website to pay money or they will make all the computers on their botnet visit a website at the same time and cause the website to slow down or make the website not work due to the large amount of visitors.  If a botnet was made to visit a video on you Tube even if You Tube had hit counters for individual views (which it doesn't) it would count each visit as a hit.

ACTUALLY - I do check my facts - - - I suppose along with every customer having the same IP address they All share the same cookies too - - but since you are so knowledgeable please give an example of an ISP that has the same IP address for ALL customers.

The IP address is but one of numerous ways of telling if a person has previously visited a website And Each ISPs customer has an individual IP number for a very good reason and it is not for telling which websites they have been to

I do not claim to be an expert on any subject but I do ensure that what I post on any subject is accurate - - I do not post messages as you do that are full of Assumption, Speculation and Supposition

Before you attempt to make somebody else appear as though they do not know what they are going on about - maybe you should do some research on the topic befoe you post messages containing information that is inaccurate or just plain Wrong

If people research a topic properly before posting about it there is less chance they will make a fool of themself posting stuff that is wrong

I am not claiming to be an extreame computer expert, I have however did a GNVQ IT course when I was still as school.  It is not exactly an honours degree but it is better than nothing.  Not everyone has all cookies enabled and they can be easily deleted so not all websites rely on them.  From what I am aware NTL had the same ip addresses for their customers in some areas and as Virgin media they might still and internet via satellite internet companies sometimes have the same IP addresses.  Also when surfing the internet on networks although each computer has it's own IP address on the server/router a website would usually get just the server's IP address for all of the computers because they are all connected through the server which is connected to the internet.

But that is irrelevent as I mentioned before websites need to show they have lots of viewers, it makes them more appealing to other companies who would want to buy them.  If You Tube didn't have hit counters google would have probably not have bought them as the website could have had the thousands of members but no one watching the videos
