The show is going to die along with Cutter? What do you think?

Well i personal do as he played an amazing part in it and i also cannot stand it when main characters die. But i was wondering what everyone else thinks. Are you going to keep watching it? Do you the ratings are going to go? Or do you think people will get over it?...

Re: The show is going to die along with Cutter? What do you think?

I think I'm totally biased because he was my favourite character - but aside from that, I just think he was the central person in the show, team-leader, inspirational thinker and friend.

His relationships with Helen, with Claudia/Jenny, with his friend Stephen, and then like a father-figure with Connor and Abby, even the dislike/respect thing with Lester kept him right in the centre of everything - its like the heart has gone out of Primeval now.

I love the show, but I'm a bit shell-shocked at the moment, can't see how it will go on properly now.... Sad

I totally agree with everything your saying, when it happened i was just like wa??!!!   The problem is as it was the actors choice and not the directors he more than likely is never going to come back specialy as he was killed....

They couldat least have waited for the last episode of the series to kill him. I mean we were all told that he leaves in a "spectacular way" and that his death will be "heroic", but sorry...it was heartbreaking somehow but overall it was a pretty cheap death (dying through helen's gun?? WTF?). I'm overall disappointed.

Re: The show is going to die along with Cutter? What do you think?

I will admit to being anxious as to how the show will go forward without Cutter.  As I said in an earlier post, Nick Cutter was, for me, the heart and soul of the show.   He was the main focus - he discovered the anomalies, figured them out, his wife is the main villian, he's the team leader and romantic lead, he's the best friend and father-figure.  He is leaving pretty big shoes to fill, and I can't see the character of Danny being able to fill 'em.

I understand it was Douglas Henshalls' decision to leave (why...?!!!) but couldn't it have been arrranged for him to do a full season of episodes..?!   To say I'm disappointed would be an under-statement.

Can the show survive without Cutter - I'm not sure that it can.   I'm reserving judgement for now, but I have to say that now that's Nick gone I'm not sure how much interest it will hold for me...

I think  that  people  should  give the  professionals a chance. The writers must  put alot of  consideration into what they  plan for the  chaacters and the  ongoing stories. It must be difficult  when  one of the  big stars / central characters just  up and  announce that they have  had enough.

I rekon some of this agro should  be  directed at  the  hallowed Dougie. Seems to me he  wasn`t as passionate about it  as some of you!

I watch Primeval every  sat  with my  wife and son. I enjoy it for  exactly what it is, a good old  fashioned family drama, which, by the  way, I think we have  been lacking  in recent years.

     Give it a chance.

Lets  hope the  writers   truly rise to the challenge!

Re: The show is going to die along with Cutter? What do you think?

I think the show can survive the loss of Nick Cutter, but it's going to be difficult. I wasn't impressed by the first two episodes of series 3, but I thought ep.3 was very good. I hang out on some other general sci-fi forums and that's a pretty common view. Although Douglas Henshall fans are understandably upset, many 'neutral' sci-fi fans are full of praise for how the writers handled things in ep.3. The reviews for this episode have been excellent. And while some DH fans may stop watching now, I imagine Jason Flemyng has fans of his own who may start watching. So that's one positive thing. If the show can kick on from ep.3, get a better balance of character relationships and action, and generally get past the current 'transitional phase', it can still do well.

In some ways, losing Dougie Henshall could be a good thing. Primeval has always been centred on Nick as the hero to the point where other characters had to revolve around him. In the end, Nick always had to be right. Without him, there's a chance for other characters to evolve, and for us to see more from their point of view. It certainly seems as though the writers are planning for some major growth in Conner, for example. Plus, Jason Flemyng seems enthusiastic and energetic and might put some effort into promoting the show - something DH hasn't done since series 1.

But - Primeval is having major problems in other ways. The schedulers have not done the show any favours. The delay in airing series 3 means, inevitably, lower ratings (lighter evenings/better weather = smaller potential audience). Then Primeval was scheduled against Robin Hood - marginally lost in week 1, marginally beat the opposition in Week 2, and promptly got scheduled against the Doctor Who Special in week 3 where, predictably, it got slaughtered in the ratings.

Finally, Primeval is being killed by pathetic publicity. Compare this with the blitz of publicity the BBC always gives Doctor Who - it's obvious Primeval is going to struggle. Adrian Hodges and Co need to start taking responsibility for getting the word out and creating more buzz. We (the fans) want to know what's going on: interviews, Q&As, behind the scenes stuff. We're not passive viewers who just turn up on Saturday and forget the show for the rest of the week. Sci-fi fans like to be fed!

Re: The show is going to die along with Cutter? What do you think?

Surely there must be more to it then this!!!!!!!!!!!! If he was just going to die woudn't they have made it a bit more exicting then that!! Helen shot him but when they showed him outside with everyone round him he didn't have any blood on him or anything!

The show wouldnt be the same without him if he is deffinately dead. But there is still some of the characters that were in S2. and it still has good plots and that

Re: The show is going to die along with Cutter? What do you think?

I think the ratings would go up, as everyone would be watching to see if he does come back ( i know i will!)
