    Selfish stupid Ashley

How blind and uncaring towards his wife's feelings is the pios Vicar being?  We all know this is the lead up to Laurel's leaving for maternity leave but Ashley's attitude and Sally's simpering voice is driving me mad!  Super Angry

    Re: Selfish stupid Ashley

Aside from his lies, his selfishness, his determination to keep the admiring Sally fawning around him in his own home, I am really hating his facial expressions.  So self-righteous, unctuous, sanctimonious.  As if he is trying to convey by pained looks and virtuous head-shaking that he is a good, caring vicar, and not even admitting to himself that he's a self-deluding prig who is loving every minute of pay back time with an ex lover and a scornful old rival.

I've never liked Ashley  -  he's another one of those people I would dislike in real life, but his saving grace has been that he was a good, loving husband, and a caring person generally.  Now all we're left with is a pious bore.

I always thought you should never interfere between husband and wife because you never really know what is going on behind closed doors (of course, soaps let us see behind the doors - great, isn't it?). Ashley wouldn't act like this with parishioners, he would try to mediate. The thing is Laurel's dad is being taken in by Sally as well. If it were me - keep out of my kitchen, honey! Oh, yes, and leave my man alone as well!

    Re: Selfish stupid Ashley

He is indeed being a complete horse's **** on so many levels.

He is in the wrong as a vicar - as Laurel told him, this is not how he would handle the same situation with one of his parishioners.

He is in the wrong as a husband - he should not be railroading his wife into putting up with this menage a trois (albeit not in the actual sexual sense) indefinitely

He is allowing his long held hatred of Vincent (understandable to be fair!) to colour his judgement on all sides

He lied, and yes, in God's House too.

Get a grip Ashley before it's too late.

    Re: Selfish stupid Ashley

Thing is he has only heard Sally's side of the story and she is very convincing!  It is probaly the fact she was his first love that is clouding his judgement which wouldn't be the case if she was a parishioner when he would be more objective.

I cannot believe how Ashley sat and drank champagne yesterday with another woman on his wedding anniversary while his wife lay ill upstairs.  The man really is wetter than Lake Windemere.  That irritating smirk as well, am disliking the vicar more and more.

I've never liked him. John Middleton is an appalling actor when given material that is simply too dramatic for him. People slate Maxwell Caulfield for less.

I'm sorry but I don't think you can class John Middleton with the same blatant lack of acting skills as Maxwell Caulfield, have you considered that he may just be playing the part of a wet vicar very well?

    Re: Selfish stupid Ashley

I wouldn't call him either stupid or selfish, just misguided.  He still thinks of Sally as the girl her knew all those years ago and not as the fruit cake she is now.  BTW did you see her face when Laurel and Ashley made up with a kiss after their blow up because she (Sally) wouldn't be told by Laurel to let her get on with tea by herself?  What did she put in Laurel's drink to make her so drunk, Ashley had the same so she must have spiked it.

I may be wrong but I thought I witnessed a quick cut of her pouring extra voddy (or something else clear), into Laurel's glass

Cheers (no pun intended) i like cider  for that. Looks like Laurel has finally had enough of Sally's interfering (being helpful is one thing but she is taking over),  such as baking Ashley a cake, although I did think it was an awful waste of a perfectly good cake for Laurel just to dump the one she bought in the bin!  Well it all hotsWink up tonight (and what do the scriptwriters have against the church anyway?)
