    BrawnGP 'worked' on Kovy's car

I noticed that when Kovy stopped with the hose attached outside the Brawn garage, the mechanics there removed it from his car. Isn't there a rule against working on another teams car?

I assume the penalty was for unsafe release, not for what happened afterwards?

Has this happened before ( a team helping another team out)? Anyone know?

    Hi

I believe team members from one team have helped push a car down the pit lane to the garage of another team on more than one occasion and I have recollections of a teams retrieving another teams errant wheels.

    Regards

That's a very good point and one I hadn't considered. It is clear that he gained an advantage as it would have been some considerable time (relatively speaking) for his own mechanics to assist. The other thing is he is technically on the race track once outside his pit box/garage? I suppose the Brawn boys saw it as a safety issue and somebody blocking their pit box so did the right thing but it does beg the question as to whether it was permissible under the rules. I would suspect it was an infringement but I suppose it's another example of rule making on the hoof!

I tell you what I noticed. No one helped ferrari when they did it. Why's that?

Maybe team personnel are not permitted to handle the equipment belonging to another team, because of the possibility of sabotage?

Or maybe it's as another poster suggested when this question was asked before  -  the other teams don't like Ferrari.  After all, Ferrari get given extra money and a right of veto by the FIA.  Maybe the other teams think that's not really fair???

Or maybe its cos teams were told after last time that if it happens again then they should intervene and remove the hose whether its theirs or not.  We will no doubt never know.

Im hedging my bets that most people go with the Ferrari are hated option though.

Could it be to do with where they stopped? If memory serves, Massa stopped right at the end of the pit lane, not in front of anyone's garage, whereas Kovy stopped right in front of the Brawn garage.

Also, I'd like to suggest they might not have been so keen to help if McLaren had been challenging them for the title!

Re: BrawnGP 'worked' on Kovy's car

Why would they not help mercedes. Im pretty sure the brawn car would not have won the title if it was powered by any other engine. They owe alot to mercedes and they may not have even been on the grid if it wasn't for them. Kovi probably stopped outside the brawn place on purpose because they were obviously going to help. Its common sense.

Re: BrawnGP 'worked' on Kovy's car

They are not on track once they left pitbox, they are in pitlane. Anybody can help in pitlane. Thats why they can push other teams cars and so on.

Reason to why nobody helped massa last year was that he couldnt stop infront of pitbox as all teams had cars coming into pits at that time. For any other team to help massa they too would have needed to leave their own pitbox and run down pitlane

I think this would come under the same rule that allows drivers to carry on in races if they have been pushed.  Basically if the car is in a dangerous position the driver is allowed to receive outside help and then carry on in the race.
