    Sophie Appeal

On the news just now, was a piece about a little girl with cancer. She needs to go to New York for an operation that will improve her chances of survival.

At the end of the story, they posted up a website address, and I can only surmise that the response was overwhelming. When I tried to access the site to donate some money, the web server that hosts the site, (http://www.sophie-appeal.org,
) had "stopped responding". Basically, this means that the server crashed and will not work again until it is restarted. I feel that it stopped responding because the sudden demands made of it by the wonderful Great British Public. The machine wasn't man enough to handle the sudden load.

Unless we keep the story alive long enough to allow the site, sophie-appeal.org to be moved to a more powerful server and allow enough time so that some money to go her way, I fear that the publicity given to this little girl's plight has been given in vain.

I'll try the site again tomorrow, but I wonder how many others will remember to do so?

    Re: Sophie Appeal

    An update to this.

I tracked down the guy who hosts sophie-appeal.org and spoke to him on the phone. He didn't know that the site was about to get this amount of publicity and therefore, he wasn't in a position to make provisions for it.

He's obviously sorted something out, because the site is now back up. (Thank you that man!)

But the issue of giving money to this little girl has not been fixed.

To donate to Sophie from sophie-appeal.org, I clicked a link that took me to http://www.justgiving.com.

After making me jump through a few hoops, on clicking to submit my donation, I received the error that I've noted below.

Two hours later (almost) and I've still not been able to give this little girl some money. There is a lesson to be learned here.

I've given up for now. I'll try again tomorrow.

    Regards,

    Sonny

    Re: Sophie Appeal

Oh! I didn't use the site the way it's been described here - I copied and pasted the details into my internet banking and made the payment that way. Would that help at all?

    Re: Sophie Appeal

Have you managed to donate yet as I too have been trying since last night and am now getting the message 'this account has been suspended' ?? It seems a shame that people are having so much trouble when time is of the essence. Can anyone shed any light on this?

    Re: Sophie Appeal

i have also tried to donate but wont give up!.  I do find it frustrating that they could get the money in a second if some celebs put there hands in there pockets. i guess handbags and fancy things are more important than a little girls life. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!

    Re: Sophie Appeal

I have just seen this heart breaking storry. As a mother of a sick little girl my self my heart breaks. Although i have very little funds myself i know i must help this little one. We should all take a look around us and think what can we do without?, is it more important to the world than this one litttle girl?. please lets just for once show as a natation our compashion and give what we can to help sophie and her parents.   if like others you are trying to donate and having no luck we need to all register here and ask those more powerful than us to set up some kind of line or site so we can give, as im affraid this one site has now crashed and thousands of us want to help but are at a loss. LETS KEEP TRYING sophie needs our help.
