why are red bull allowed to use toro rosso's pit box to exit their pit box?
i noticed that vettel and webber pass through the toro rosso's pit box on their way out of the pits gaining a lot of time on the competition. am not sure if it is against the rules but very clever of them to exploit it as they finished 5th and 6th in the 08 constructors championships. when alguersuari went in the pits in abu dhabi with a gearbox problem, his crew weren't ready. i noticed a set of mechanics in the toro rosso's pit box holding the dangling wires clear for vettel to pass through after has made his stop. they were willing and able to hold the dangling wires back for vettel and didn't care much about alguersuari who came in with a gearbox failure. they waved him out of the way in readiness for vettel's stop.

I'm actually going to wait for Aveli to reply to her own initial post with a far more outlandish and ill-informed statement to get things kicked off.

Emmm... surely with everyone doing the exact same time in pits, any time lost gained negligible and as for the guys holding back the wires, that has been the case since Monaco '94 when all other pit crew members were ordered to stay out the boxes when their drivers were not coming in - it was necessary to have someone hold the pressure lines back to avoid tangling with other cars Didn't notice the STR pits on Sunday I'm afraid - in the Vettel / Alguersuari incident, I only saw the Red Bull/Williams mechanics

i find your post rather interesting, can you tell me more about monaco 94 and why the pit crew were ordered to hold back the wires? all the cars i have seen exiting their box take an acute angle to cut into the pilane whereas the red bulls take an obtuse angle to go into the pit lane from their box. this means the bulls are able to get onto the pitlane without stressing their tyres too much and saving time in the process.

before the disastrous events at imola '94, it used to be common practice for all the pitcrews to hang around their boxes or near the lanes watching the cars go by and do their pit stops many people forget about the pit accident at that dreadful san marino GP, because it was overshadowed by senna's death, but several ferrari, minardi and lotus engineers were injured when alboreto - speeding out of the pitlane - lost a wheel that eventually plowed into a load of mechanics from the next race at monaco, all pitcrews were ordered to stay in their garages until their car was about to come in, but unfortunately the pressure lines were still hanging down in the path of other cars, so someone has to "verge" out to box to withdraw the cables and not pull the temporary extensions down at this stage there was still no pitlane speed limit either, but that was finally added at the french GP later that year

that's interesting and thanks for that but i have seen cars turn very sharply to get out of thier box without having to use the box ahead of them and have only noticed red bull using toro rosso's box on their way out when it's not being used by toro rosso.

the box in front of the red bull pits was williams, with toro rosso behind them as STR finished ahead of red bull in last years championship
