    Vettel and Carting

Vettel was interviewed after the race and was rather wistful about the delay to next season, and thinking about getting “back to his roots” and doing a bit of carting.

I’ve never been to a carting meet and only seen a little on TV.  IS it good, and does any channel have good coverage ?

karting absolutely amazing fun - get a few friends together and find a good track and have a go.   if anything it will give you the slightest idea of what it's like to be a racer

     Big Smile

    definitely great fun

Firstly it's karting; they do occasionally show some karting on Motors TV but it's not very well covered. At that level it's all a bit frantic anyway, I much prefer to watch the kids go round. Rest assured all future F1 WDC's will have started in karting. It's definitely the way to learn the craft and you'll know fairly quickly whether or not you have anything.

Out of curiosity why the mis-spelling of "carting" ?

What about attending meetings in the UK ?  Is it worth it and any in the South-East ?

agr 1stly Andy was right it is karting and not carting. 2ndly if you live in SE then Buckmore park is a good track. Also one at Lydd. Excellent to watch especially with the kids. Smile

A cart is a wooden contraption drawn by a horse whereas a kart is a mini race car pushed along by lots of mechanical horses. The latter is much more entertaining to both watch and drive.

Not sure if there was supposed to be a picture or a video here but either way a blank on my screen. I have to say I love to watch lads of that age, absolutely fearless, brainless and reckless but always entertaining. I'm with you in keeping it low key. With seriousness comes much expense, time and less fun.

"Race" may stretch things a little as it's just lads and dads stuff at our local track here in south Staffordshire. I share a kart with my eldest son as I can (just) fit in it. The youngest lad has great pleasure in beating his old man but things will change the bigger and heavier he gets. Trouble is I reckon I'm getting heavier at the same rate as he is!

thats good Andy, as i said, my wee guy races in Honda cadets but i had a shot in a rotax max earlier in the year...ive done alot of indoor karting but must say the rotax was the most fun i have had with my clothes on...lol.

our first season in karting, done okay finished 5th in the club championship and competed in the NKRA finals in Wales...hope for bigger and better things next season. one of the tracks we used to go to, my wee fella is now 5secs per lap faster than me, he does 29's...im doing 32's (which is a descent time) so have promised myself never to race him, that way he will never beat me....lol.

That's a brilliant photo, Slick.  Is one of those your boy?  I bet he's as proud as punch at beating his dad!!

Good luck to him, and good for you both, it's great to see dads and sons enjoying themselves together.

That looks a nice little package. We were running Honda Pro-karts but the little feller wanted a Rotax as he kept having to look over his shoulder to see where the old man was. I usually ran out of puff before I caught him but have absolutely no chance now. So the other Pro-kart is sold and I'm about to get a Rotax! It's not something I particularly wanted to do as I think they're more trouble than they're worth but I will not be beaten by a kid!

    Re: Vettel and Carting

thanks Andy, my wee guy is No 64...love watching him race, so smooth and the best thing is he is a fair driver...non of this dodgems stuff.

a mate of mine has just bought a pro kart for next season and asked me if i fancied doing endurance races with him...dont need to be asked twice...lol. looking forward to it :)

good luck with the rotax....i loved it although it was 3 days before i could move properly...lol.
