    MacLaran and VAG......... mmmmmmmmmmm

VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) may collaborate with MacLaran on the MacLaran engine. VAG have produced a lot of great engines. I'm a VAG fan (second to Ferrari) so it will be interesting if they do. It wouldn't be a new thing for MacLaran as the partnership with Porsche proved (successfully)  in past times.

    What do others think!!!!!

It's about time that VAG entered F1.  Shame they are not allowed TDi engines in F1!

sounds plausible.audi have been toying with F1 pretentions on and off also (audi are owned by VAG) so maybe this would be an opportunity for them to get in as an engine supplier It would be very good for VAG, they also own the brands; skoda, porsche, bugatti, bentley and lamborghini so they could choose which of these they would like to promote.

I think mclaren want to make a mclaren engine but im sure they could do a deal whereby they work in partnership with VAG and mclaren badge the engine as their own.. although i'm not sure what would be in it for VAG in that instance - apart from the technological fall out.

Im not sure that mclaren want to go engine building on their own just yet, it would be an awfully expensive business to start up.

Does VAG own or have anything to do with SEAT aswell. I know a lot of the SEATS have VW engines them.

VAG means Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft and includes the following brands: VW, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, SEAT, Skoda and Scania AB.

Yes SEAT is part of the VAG company and use VW floorpans as well as engines.

    Re: MacLaran and VAG......... mmmmmmmmmmm

It would make sense to forge links with another manufacturer if they needed extra funding and VAG would fit the bill the nicely if they wanted to go in that direction. But I really do believe that McLaren want to go it alone. Although there is little information available, it is rumoured that Mahle designed and built the engine for the MP4 12C. For those that do not know, Mahle is very much involved in F1, and supply parts for 3/4 of the grid. They have designed and produced engines in other forms of motorsport for years. Is it any coincidence that the engine for the road car is built on the same foundations as an F1 engine ?

    Re: MacLaran and VAG......... mmmmmmmmmmm

I remember reading in Top Gear magazine that Ron Dennis said thay they (MacLaren) would have to use that engine as the makers could not save any more weight. Then the MacLaren engineers got hold of it and shaved loads of weight off it. so
